Jæren and Rogaland

Wedding photographer on Jæren

Jæren is where I grew up. Even though I'm now based in the Oslo area, Jæren is the place I know best, and the place I still come back to several times a year.

It's one of Norway's most distinctive wedding landscapes. The flat coast, the long beaches, the light that comes straight from the sea, and the characteristic stone houses and clearance cairns. It's a landscape that doesn't need decoration to look beautiful. For couples who choose to get married here, the nature becomes part of the story regardless of what you plan.

I've photographed along the Jæren coast across several seasons and know how the light behaves at different times of year. Summer light at Orre beach is something different from autumn light at Obrestad lighthouse, and that matters for where and when the day should be planned.

Locations I know well

  • Obrestad lighthouse in Hå — dramatic coastal landscape, and some of the most beautiful light on Jæren at sunset
  • Orre beach and Orrevannet nature reserve — wide sandy beach and calm water surfaces, works both morning and evening
  • Bore and Stokkastranden — where I've photographed weddings before, with a light all its own in the evening
  • Jærmuseet and Vitengarden in Time — indoor alternatives if the weather turns
  • Ogna and Sirevåg — south on Jæren, less visited and often more private
  • Undheim and the inland of Time and Klepp — farm and barn weddings with Jæren character

If you have somewhere else in mind, chances are I know it or have photographed nearby.

Travel and practical

I'm usually on Jæren several times a year, both for wedding work and because my family still lives in the region. That means I can coordinate planning meetings with these trips, so we avoid extra logistics.

For the wedding day itself, travel costs (flight from Gardermoen to Sola, and accommodation) are added to the package price. I always arrive the day before a wedding on the west coast, so I'm rested and ready when the day begins.

Why local knowledge matters on Jæren

Jæren weather is more honest than most places in Norway. The wind can change everything in an hour. The light is strong, often harsh, and demands that the photographer knows how to handle it. A beautiful day at Bore can become heavy headwinds and horizontal rain in 30 minutes.

When the photographer doesn't know this in advance, it becomes stressful. When the photographer knows the patterns, it just becomes part of the planning. We know where to go if the wind turns. We know which side of the building is sheltered. We know that the light at Orre at half past eight in July doesn't resemble the light at Bore at half past eight in September.

It's not magic. It's just years of having been here.

For couples on Jæren and neighbouring municipalities

I photograph in all the Jæren municipalities: Hå, Time, Klepp, Sola and Sandnes. For couples planning weddings on a farm, a beach, or a combined setup across multiple locations, it's easier to work with a photographer who knows the distances from before.
