I'm not interested in wedding photography that looks like an advertisement for wedding photography.

I'm Helge Meisal, based on the Jæren coast in Rogaland, southwest Norway. I've been photographing weddings since 2018 — across Norway and occasionally further afield.

What interests me is what actually happens: the mother of the bride biting her lip to keep from crying. The groom watching his future wife without her knowing. The child who's fallen asleep under the dinner table. Those photographs don't exist if the photographer is busy moving people around.

How I work

I arrive early and leave late. A typical wedding day is 8–10 hours with a camera. I move quietly, stay on the edges when that makes sense, and place myself where things are happening.

After the wedding, I go through everything myself — usually between 600 and 1000 frames. I deliver 30–50 edited photographs. That might sound like a small number. But it's the photographs that hold up over time, not a hundred near-identical variations of the same moment.

What makes me different

I don't take every enquiry. Not because I'm difficult, but because it works better for everyone if we're actually a good fit.

If you want lots of posed group shots, tightly edited black-and-white series, and a photographer who directs you through the day — I'm probably not the right person.

If you want photographs that feel like a day you actually lived, rather than a day that was photographed — we're probably a good match.

Destination weddings in Norway

I'm based a 30-minute drive south of Stavanger. I'm happy to travel anywhere in Norway — the fjords of the west coast, the mountains of the north, the archipelago islands. If you're planning a wedding in Norway from abroad, I'm also happy to help you navigate the practical side of things. Travel costs are always agreed upfront.
